The Black Cat Detectives

by Wendy Meddour

Despite being a world-famous beetle expert with a prestigious scientific career, Auntie Urooj is lonely. Her niece Shaima decides something must be done about this and, by enrolling her with the Truly Deeply Muslims online marriage agency, arranges an introduction to a charming and handsome suitor, Rasheed.

But almost immediately, Shaima is suspicious of Rasheed. Not only does he cheat at Monopoly, but he lies about his family and background. Whilst her family are seduced by Rasheed’s smooth talking, Shaima sets out to expose him for the fraudster he really is - hopefully before Auntie Urooj’s beetles meet a gruesome end.

Set against a British Muslim background, this is a fast-paced, funny sleuthing adventure, which young readers will find hard to put down. Both accessible and entertaining, the text is also complemented by pen and ink illustrations.
