The Big Out and About Book

Birkett was shortlisted for the Booktrust Early Years Award for babies under one year old for The Big Night-Night Book, which is also part of this series of touch and feel board books for the very youngest children.

In this book, follow a very simple story of a small child enjoying a picnic at a farm and saying hello to all the animals, presented in short and easy-to-remember rhyming couplets. Some may feel that the use of 'baby' language such as 'horsies' and 'doggy' is not ideal,  but this is a minor point in an otherwise excellent book. Children can touch the animals’ coats, which provide different tactile experiences, and the last spread shows the child and an adult snuggled up, out of the rain, with a story, including a tiny storybook which can be opened and read!
