Zombies Don't Cry

by Rusty Fischer

Being a teenager is hard enough when you’re alive but imagine the extra problems faced when you’re a teenage zombie! That's the situation Maddy has to contend with, when she wakes up to discover she's become one of the undead after being struck by lightning. Gone are her dreams of becoming the girlfriend of the hunky new boy or going to the fall formal: instead she has to worry about what make up will cover her deathly pallor and where she can get her hands on fresh brains without causing suspicion.

Her new afterlife is scary enough without being stalked by the evil Zerkers: violent, blood-thirsty zombies so named because of their tendency to go berserk. However, luckily for our heroine her high school is in fact the secret home of one or two other zombies who are on hand to guide her as she adjusts to her new situation, and to help her in the brutal showdown with the Zerkers.

This entertaining novel combines laughs with gripping, nail-biting twists and turns. Maddy is an engaging and likable protagonist, who deals with all manner of unlikely situations with good humour. Supported by a colourful cast of enjoyable characters Zombies Don’t Cry is an excellent debut from author Rusty Fischer.
