Blood Magic

by Tessa Gratton

Silla is an orphan – her father murdered her mother and then killed himself. Silla is convinced her father was not evil, but what could have led him to commit such an act? Discovering she has magical ancestry, she hopes that a mysterious spell book, apparently written by her father, may provide the answers she seeks.

Silla starts to experiment with spells using 'blood magic', the power of spilt blood. In the local graveyard, she is discovered by new boy in town Nick, who himself is no stranger to blood magic, and who swiftly becomes a soulmate. Together, they must fight against a terrible enemy - an evil immortal woman, skilled in the art of possessing people, and determined to possess Silla's spell book.

There are no vampires or werewolves, but plenty of blood and violence in Tessa Gratton’s excellent debut: a heady brew of intense emotions, magic, secrets and romance. Although a stand alone novel, it will also link to Gratton’s next book, which readers will be left eagerly awaiting.
