When I Woke Up I Was a Hippopotamus
by

Illustrated by Ross Collins
In a picture book which many parents will recognise as an accurate portait of the under 5s, a small child with a vivid imagination pretends he is a hippo who doesn't want to wake up.
As his day progresses, he pretends he is a statue when he should be going ot school, a monkey in the classroom, a monster in the playground, and a giant when he gets home, which at last causes mum and dad to become dragons and tell him off!
The rhyming text and lively, humorous illustrations make this a great book to read together. The story concludes with a pleasingly reassuring ending in which the child helps to make tea, reads with mum and enjoys bathtime before going to bed.
