I is for Iran

by

Shirin Adl

Illustrated by Kamyar Adl

Another letter in Frances Lincoln’s World Alphabet series, each page revealing in a vibrant photograph and short but informative text an aspect of life in modern Iran. The endpapers are decorated with traditional Persian patterns, and the photos and text show the wealth of art and design found throughout the different regions of the country.

The Adls steer clear of controversial topics about Iran, instead celebrating its geography and diversity without any reference to its chequered history, or to politics. Those photos which include people generally show men rather than women, and few show children. As a result we get a patchy idea of what life is really like in Iran, though we are assured that family life is important.
