The Great Explorer

by Chris Judge

Tom’s explorer father is lost somewhere near the North Pole. Rather than taking the conventional course of action and enlisting the help of experts, Tom sets off to find his father all by himself.

In a wonderfully naive and totally unrealistic rescue mission, Tom encounters life-threatening danger from icebergs, polar bears and blizzards but is fortunate to have, among other things, a hot air balloon, a parachute and unparalleled igloo-building skills to ensure the successful completion of his arduous task.

Fresh, unsophisticated illustrations with bold use of colour aptly complement the mood of the text providing a reassuring thread of continuity in an exciting adventure story and plenty of opportunity for interaction.
