Welcome to Bugville

by Paul Howard

Welcome to Bugville, the thriving metropolis home of millions of bugs. In the old days it was rotten, crime-infested and smelled of underpants; only the epic endeavours of superheroes, Superfly and Midge, redeemed it from darkness and they still patrol the streets. But some long for the past; lurking in a shady dive, dastardly Electro Slug and his repulsive sidekick, Loo, plan to destroy our heroes. Their devilish plan involves daring raids, outrageous disguises, disrupting the Annual Bugville TV Awards and kidnapping Freya Lemar (impossibly glamorous TV reporter, and beloved of Superfly).  Can Superfly and Midge survive...?

The format of this fast-moving beginner reader, plentiful cartoon-style illustrations throughout the text, morphing occasionally into graphic novel, perfectly complements its heroic heroes, villainous villains, and cliff-hanging action.

I was born at home on April Fools Day. I always drew as a child. I would spend hours drawing my favourite pop stars and footballers. I remember especially liking drawing kings and queens for a history topic when I was about nine. I also liked to read - my favourite books included Joan Aitkins' stories about Arabel and her Raven, Mortimer, and the Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster. I worked after leaving school and then went into Art College. I ended up doing a degree course in graphic design in Leicester. I picked up work illustrating books for Longman Educational, which led onto working with other publishers.
