A Witch in Winter

by Ruth Warburton

Anna is bewildered when Seth Waters – possibly the most beautiful boy she’s ever met – dumps his girlfriend and starts pursuing her. Her life is confused enough already as she has moved from London to Winter into a dilapidated house and a new sixth form. But could Seth’s infatuation be linked with a charred, ancient book the house yields up – and the incantation 'binding an object of desire' she and her friends jokingly perform? Confusion deepens into fear; Anna realises that she wields genuine powers, – and that their joke has unleashed dark forces in Winter, placing the entire village in danger.

The witch-like powers Anna possesses – and unleashes – drive this plot with high drama – but the burgeoning, love/hate relationship between her and Seth is convincingly and sensitively portrayed.
