A Stork in a Baobab Tree: An African Twelve Days of Christmas
by
Catherine House
Illustrated by Polly Alakija
This picture book takes the familiar 'Twelve Days of Christmas' carol and gives it an African twist.
Each spread depicts a different African tradition, beginning with the arrival of the storks and the flowering of the baobab trees which herald Christmas; the book culminates with the joyful birth of a baby. A simple but informative text accompanies each image.
Each of the detailed, colourful pictures contains allusions to the Christmas story, from a bustling African market selling gold frankincense and myrrh, to repeated images of hopeful couples preparing for the birth of their baby – this is a delightful book to be returned to and shared each Christmas holiday.
