North: The Greatest Animal Journey on Earth
by
Nick Dowson
Illustrated by Patrick Benson
This exquisite picture book invites readers to accompany a host of animals from walruses to whales, as they migrate to the Arctic for the summer months.
A lyrical and informative text supports gloriously detailed illustrations, which include depictions of the five thousand mile journey to the Arctic Circle of a grey whale and the impressive flights of cranes and snow geese who travel even further from Mexico and China.
This book has been designed to be repeatedly pored over; many of the spreads are wordless, allowing the youngest of children to visually ‘read’ them unaccompanied. North is a visual treat for children and adult readers alike!

What you thought
This book is astonishing, combining extremely accurate scientific information with simple and beautiful prose told in a story form so that the youngest of children can follow. It could be used with bi-lingual and low ability older children as well as children who are learning to read. The illustrations are superb. They stand up as works of art in their own right, but combined with the text, this book is a masterpiece
