On the Road with Mavis and Marge

Mavis the cow and Marge the chicken have read about the big world beyond the farm and one day they set off for somewhere ‘far away’. Their journey turns out to be a great adventure, but hit by a few mishaps along the way. Each setback affects progress but it’s never long before the pair find a new friend and a new mode of transport to take them onwards. It’s only when Mavis and Marge land on the moon that suddenly home seems very far away and it’s time to return.

This is a classic theme for very young readers and here has a joyous, encouraging and reassuring message. There’s an engagingly colourful and cheerful cast of characters in this deserving Irish Book Awards winner.
