Wuthering Hearts
by Kay Woodward
Wuthering Heights sucks – according to year 10 drama student Emily Sparrow who sees no redeeming features in a moody, miserable, wailing tale of doomed love. Until, that is, the drama teacher selects it as the school Christmas play.
Emily realises that to land the lead role she must summon up some real enthusiasm, especially as Heathcliff is likely to be played by new-boy Robert McBride of the amazing eyes and deeply sexy voice. As the date of the first performance draws closer, real life begins to echo fiction as a fiery, tempestuous and unpredictable relationship develops between the two.
A teen romance which is well-written and suffused with humour and a touch of pathos.
