The Fabulous Flapdoodles
by
Chae Strathie
Illustrated by Emily Golden
These mischievous but benign creatures seem to be the offspring of Moomins and the BFG, their escapades and appearance, combined with the extravagant names of the malevolent night time creatures which they keep at bay (Snarkles and Weezers), reminding us of Dahl’s legacy to children’s literature.
The brightly coloured spreads show us the fantastically dressed Flapdoodles, who are imagined to be responsible for the mess we find appears in bedrooms overnight, but who also scare away anything which young readers might fear in the darkness when they try to get to sleep.
This funny book, whose rhyming text will be easily learnt as a spell to ward off bedtime fears, will reassure those nervous of the shadows of the night.
