Momentum
by Saci Lloyd
As the world’s oil-based infrastructure crumbles, conflict over energy supplies escalates, dividing wealthy, technology-loving Citizens from alternative thinking, favela-dwelling Outsiders within a repressive police state.
But Hunter (Tech Class 1) loves the favelas’ creativity and freedom, and goes there to free-jump. Swept up in a police raid, he finds himself helping Outsider, Uma, escape, accepting from her for safe-keeping a metal case: inside, the encrypted codes to Outsiders’ global communication system. Suddenly the clock is ticking. Can Hunter and Uma save the codes and ensure the Outsiders’ future – or will the police capture them first?
This dystopian thriller is tantalisingly believable, the plot switching between narrative viewpoints with breath-taking momentum. Great characters and complex relationships between families and friends make this thought-provoking, disturbing – and extremely exciting.
