When the earth becomes uninhabitable because of pollution, various societies escape into distant areas, including the upper branches of a tree world. Ark, a Dendran, inhabits the odiferous depths of its plumbing system, together with the aptly named Mucum, who becomes his friend and ally as they fight to escape enemies and restore peace to their world.

Andrew Fusek Peters is a poet and storyteller whose interest in folk tales was kindled when hearing about the history of his mother’s Czech family. His fascination with myths was fuelled by learning the didgeridoo and working with aboriginal storytellers, singers and dancers.
