Cat's Cradle

After being abandoned at a London theatre when she was an infant, Cat Royal has always believed that she has no family, so is stunned when her guardian shows her a letter from a woman claiming to be a relative from Scotland. Knowing she must find out the truth, she travels to the Scottish town of Lanark, where she gains employment in the cotton mill in an attempt to get to know her alleged family before revealing her identity. However, when she is kidnapped by the ruthless Bruce clan, Cat must rely on her wits and loyal friends to save her.

Set in 1792 and exploring themes of friendship, loyalty and the importance of family, this latest historical adventure following the fortunes of the feisty heroine Cat Royal will not disappoint fans of the series.

    Julia Golding was born in 1969 and grew up in Essex, on the edge of Epping Forest. As a child she used to imagine stories about the mysterious trees she could see from her bedroom window.


    After reading English at Cambridge, she joined the Foreign Office and worked in Poland as a diplomat, before returning to England to read for a doctorate in English Literature at Oxford. She went on to join Oxfam as a policy advisor, and then become a campaigner at the UN, where she worked to lessen the impact of conflict on civilians living in war zones.

     

    She now works full-time as a writer, and lives in Oxford with her husband and three children.
