The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse
by
Aesop
Illustrated by Ayano Imai
Town Mouse visits Country Mouse but is disappointed by the simple nuts and berries on offer to eat, so persuades his country- dwelling friend to visit him, where the cuisine is far more exciting and abundant. Country Mouse eagerly tucks into a feast of delicious cakes, jellies and cheeses, but the town holds many dangers and the mice have to frequently interrupt their meal to dive for cover. Country Mouse eventually decides that the exquisite fare is not worth the risk and returns with relief to the countryside where he can enjoy his simple food in peace.
This retelling of Aesop’s fable shows that it is better to be content with what you have and is delicately illustrated from a mouse’s perspective.
