Swim the Fly
by Don Calame
Matt, Coop and Sean have been friends forever. Each summer, they set themselves a goal; it used to be riding bikes but now revolves around girl-related tasks, and this year tops the lot - they must see a real live naked girl.
But Matt has his own private goal - to make the gorgeous Kelly West notice him, which is why he volunteers to race the insanely hard 100 yard Butterfly for his Swim Team. So begins a summer like no other, filled with crazed swimming coaches, hiding in cupboards, and cross-dressing - along with some growing up.
There is laddish humour aplenty here - but it's refreshing to read a coming-of-age story about a male group of friends, and beneath the banter, some strong relationships are portrayed.
