Bar Balto

by

Faiza Guene

Translated by Sarah Ardizzone

Bar Balto is a cornerstone of an estate. Bar Balto is the third book from French child prodigy, Faiza Guene. As this book is about the spirit, energy, exuberance and foul-mouths of the youth, in a series of monologues, the translator has taken care to ensure this book is relevant to UK readers.

Having worked with Live Magazine's legion of youth writers and creatives, the translator has put together a live translation, inflected with all the street slang of a London yoot, while telling the vivid, and sometimes violent tale of a series of inter-connected youths and how violence pushes them to the edge.

The book is well drawn and very French, yet sounds so urgently British/London, it's charming and quick to read and allows an insight into the txt-ridden, low motivation, high octane lives of kids today, distractions, influences and warts, and all.
This book is big in the game, ya get me?
