The Nutcracker

On Christmas Eve, Clara is given a nutcracker in the shape of a toy soldier which she loves, and protects from the vicious Mouse King who wants to kill him. The Nutcracker then comes to life and takes Clara to the Land of Sweets and is rewarded by the Sugar Plum Fairy with sweets.
When Clara declares her love for the Nutcracker he is transformed into a real soldier and they are married.
This retelling of E.T.A. Hoffmann's surreal fairytale is illustrated by Lisa Evan's glowing, jewel-like colours, contrasted with soft pastels.
