My Name is Mina
The prequel to Skellig
by David Almond
Through a collection of stories, journal entries and meandering thoughts, Mina tells the story of her life so far; of grief, marginalisation, bravery, self- knowledge and love.
Revisiting a character he first introduced in his bestseller, Skellig, over 12 years ago, David Almond explores Mina's background and eccentricities to reveal a complex and resilient spirit who is as endearing as she is infuriating.

I couldn't put it down! Seriously, I cut myself off from society to read it (basically barricading myself in my room, refusing to get out until I read it all) This has got to be one of the best books I've ever read in my life! This book really makes you think about how the world works, how people would see things that we take for granted; like 'Dust'. I love Mina, a misunderstood little girl, who just wanted to be free. I loved the way Mr Almond wrote this book, how he put things how they were, not hiding them and pretending. I'd recommend this book to ANYONE who loves reading; and also wonders about the world. (Like Me) (P.s, you also find out REALLY INTERESTING stuff and do extraordinary activities. Try'em!)
Loved this book! Amazingly creative and imaginative and i am an old mum of two. Read Skellig a few years ago so was quite close to Mina already. She is an amazing character and even though its a fictional character in a book written by a chap (older than me!) i feel like she's real. I loved her freedom and creativeness and i really related to her which is weird as I am 40+ now (but a very young one!). I keep going on about my age but its to prove that this book is for everyone. I have even bought it for Xmas for my nephew who is only 7.
