White Time
by Margo Lanagan
A collection of short stories by an Australian writer internationally known for her fantasy writing, which addresses issues of time, thought, experience, reality and feeling.
Lanagan’s work is wide-ranging, and this collection, originally published in 2001, shows us the breadth of her range both in genre – from myth to science-fiction to alternative real time – and in style. Her subjects are often disturbing, sometimes violent and always challenging, but can be tender and introspective, revealing dystopian scenarios which question our accepted views and realistic interpretations.
The stories are not an easy read, but the language is beautifully handled, poetic, creative and inspiring. As in her recent novel, Tender Morsels, Lanagan is inspired by fairy tale, which she reworks in several stories.
