Junk

by Melvyn Burgess

The disturbing story of a group of teenagers on the slippery slope into heroin addiction. An honest account of the highs and lows, this award-winning book is harrowing at times but presents a plausible and readable portrayal of drug addiction, which suggest that while adults may not be to blame, they may not be blamesless either.

This book was brilliant. It was in turn both exciting and shocking which i have come to expect when reading any story by Melvin Burgess. I read this just after reading the Ghost Behind the Wall by him and the contrasts between the two novels were immense. I have since then passed Junk on to every teenager who is a voracious reader as i think every young adult should read this book.
