I Was a Rat
or The Scarlet Slippers
by
Philip Pullman
Illustrator: Peter Bailey
A small boy arrives on the doorstep of a childless couple, politely but insistently asserting that he used to be a rat.
The hapless Roger is first taken from his new home for a ‘philosophical investigation’, then exploited as a fairground exhibit and finally hunted as an alleged threat to society, until the remarkable truth finally emerges.
This is a magical, humorous and well-paced example of storytelling at its best.

It is really enjoyable and when i started reading I couldn't stop. I was drawn into it because thier omusing and humours characters and we will carry on reading this antill we finsh it. I hope you enjoy reading this to.
A very good book about a boy called Roger who thinks he was a rat living in the sewers. There are also characters named Bob and Joan these are the foster parents of Roger they found him when he turned up at the front door of their house. This book is also reccomended by us moomy and aloo it is very funny.
I was a Rat is a n exelent book! We havent read all of it however, we love the part where he goes under neath the cheese stall and it falls over, then the dogs start to chase him! Also we're wondering about Aurelia when Roger said her name was Mary-Jane!!!!!!!! We cant wait for the ending!!!!!!!
Although I havn't finished the book I think it'quite interesting but a little too predictable. My favourite part so far is when Roger bites the teacher. My least favourite part is when Roger nibbles everything because it gets boring after it is repeated alot.
