The Very Quiet Cricket
by Eric Carle
One summer day, a little cricket emerges from a tiny egg. As the day passes, creatures greet the cricket.
'Welcome!' chirps big cricket; 'good day', crunches worm, eating an apple; 'good afternoon,' screeches cicada; 'good night' buzz the mosquitoes.
Little cricket tries to answer but nothing ever happens when he rubs his wings – not a sound. Then in the still dark of evening, little cricket meets another cricket; once again, he rubs his wings together and this time, out comes a beautiful noise.
This book is a feast for the senses, brimming with colours and textures that are simultaneously powerful and delicate (look at the clover's head!) - with a final noisy surprise! A welcome reissue for this lovely book.
