The Haunted House
by Kazuno Kohara
When a young girl goes to live in a magnificent old house at the edge of town, she doesn't seem at all worried to find that it is haunted by not one, but many, floaty white ghosts.
That's because the girl is actually a witch and ghost-catching is something she loves to do. One by one she catches all the ghosts in the house, puts them through the washing machine and recycles them as useful household soft furnishings like curtains and tablecloths.
A simple and appealing storyline is eclipsed by the superb and original illustrations. Using only black and white on orange, the colours of Halloween, printmaker Kazuno Kohara has created a unique book experience which oozes atmosphere without being too scary for youngsters.
