The runemark on her hand has always marked Maddy as an outsider.

The villagers think it connects her with ancient, forbidden gods. They are also suspicious of One-Eye, who teaches Maddy about the old times before the the draconian Order seized power.

Now One-Eye needs Maddy's help to recover a long-lost relic of the gods, which (he says) will halt the imminent World's End (again!). But unfortunately disturbing relics has a habit of bringing old feuds to life again.
