Molly and the Night Monster

 Evocatively coloured entirely in shades of blue, Chris Wormell's latest picture book addresses the fears of small children once they have been put to bed and before sleep arrives, or when they wake, as Molly does, during the night.

In that atmosphere of a darkened room and creaking noises in the rest of the house, small imaginations can run riot, and Molly is certain that the sound she hears is a monster.

Each spread shows her confronting a different monster – crocodile, bear, hippo, giraffe, elephant - familiar animals made terrible by her being alone.

The final monster appears to be Sendak-inspired, but when brave Molly captures it, it’s her mum! A beautifully illustrated reassurance for young readers about bedtime horrors.
