The Pigeon wants a Puppy
by Mo Willems
Pigeon is like a typical under-five year old. He wants a puppy, and he’s wanted one forever – at least since last Tuesday. He plans to look after it like a plant, ride piggyback on it and play tennis with it.
When he thinks we don’t want him to have a puppy he throws a big tantrum and sulks. When a puppy appears he is horrified. He doesn’t like its teeth, hair, claws, slobber or its wet nose. He changes his mind – he would rather have a walrus instead.
Small children will love Pigeon, recognising themselves in his moods and demands. Simple lines and circles are manipulated to produce an expressive bird who speaks directly to the reader, expecting answers. A humorous and perceptive book.
