Coming to Tea

by Sarah Garland

First published more than twenty years ago, this is one of Sarah Garland’s books for toddlers, which focus on situations familiar to that age group in particular.

Garland’s families are entirely realistic, living in typically messy, hectic households where things don’t always go to plan, but in which there is always a comfortable caring and sharing relationship between carer and child.

Both households here appear to be headed by Mum, and children and animals of all types and ages join in, improvise and enjoy activities whatever disaster may seem to threaten their enjoyment.

The lively illustrations can be read as fully as the text, and offer much material for sharing.
