Horseradish
by Lemony Snicket
This is a kind of 'self-help' book, beginning with a sad, short story that illustrates that life is a ‘turbulent journey, fraught with confusion, heartbreak and inconvenience’.
This is followed by 13 chapters in which the subjects of home, family, school, life and love, among others, are all tackled in Lemony Snicket’s customary doom-laden style.
The author has drawn together a selection of anecdotes, remarks and inescapable truths which are often accurate, witty and cruel, but will be of no comfort to the reader whatsoever.
This collection may attract reluctant readers to the Lemony Snicket novels, whilst existing fans will enjoy dipping into this book and reading it mournfully to their friends.
