Fire Dreamer
by Beth Webb
The second novel in Webb's series about Tegen, an Iron Age trainee druid who, having discovered she is the promised star dancer destined to fight an evil threatening her people, now finds that she has the ability to foresee events through fire magic. The Roman invaders are tightening their grip on Britain, but inter-tribal wars have weakened the Celtic resistance. Tegen meets Owein, another young druid, but his sinister uncle is a shadow walker determined to ferment disunity among the tribes and court the Romans. More accessible than Webb's first Tegen novel, this is an absorbing mystery tale which vividly portrays the difference in civilization, custom and beliefs between Celt and Roman, and provides a fascinating alternative view of the invaders.
