The Catnapping Cat

by

Judy Allen
Illustrator: Philip Giordano

Whitbread prize-winner Allen introduces young readers to Matt the cat and his witch. Although Matt knows exactly the best sort of place for a nap, the witch seems to be particularly dozy, and tries sleeping like all sorts of animals before she eventually finds the right place to sleep.

This book could fruitfully be used in literacy lessons for younger or less-able readers as an example of narrative poetry, but would equally earn its place on any bedroom bookshelf as an encouragement to children reluctant to go to sleep!

Giordano's bug-eyed creatures are distinctive and humorous, but within each bold, quirky spread he conveys significant, accurate information about the homes of a variety of animals, reinforced by the text.
