Anne Frank

This account of the Nazi persecution of the Jews and Anne Frank's family's hiding in a secret annexe to escape them, is sensitively told. We are introduced to Anne, her father, his assistant, and others, as characters in a story. As the narrative progresses we are encouraged to identify with the spirited Anne as 'someone you might sit next to in class' – learning of her joys and sadness. Readers will understand something of how Hitler was able to create such a situation in Germany after World War I; the impact on Jew's at this time and undoubtedly they will be forced to think about bigotry. From the subdued browns and greys of the beautifully realised illustrations, to the thorough research and the careful choice of language, this book resonates with truth.
