Lemons are Not Red

by

Laura Vaccaro Seeger
Illustrator: Laura Vaccaro Seeger

This wonderfully arty colours book covers an eclectic group of objects – among them lemons, carrots, flamingoes, reindeer, grass and the moon!

'Lemons are not RED. Lemons are YELLOW.' the book begins. A lemon-shaped hole on the page makes the lemon look red when you look through it - and then when you turn over, it looks yellow.

This book has great appeal to the toddler who loves correcting statements, which are obviously 'wrong'. But it is also a work of art to be enjoyed by older children. The colours of the illustrations (done in acrylic paint) are saturated and vibrant and the design is beautiful in its simplicity.
