Four Red Apples
by David McKee
Ringo Rabbit thinks that juggling four red apples is a really clever thing to do and wants to share his skill with all his friends. Disappointingly, they can all do it already, and Ringo becomes increasingly downhearted, until he is reminded who taught them in the first place.
David McKee combines his distinctively offbeat style with a story which examines friendship, disappointment and sharing, in a humorous and sympathetic way.
As Ringo follows Rubens the Pig to try to find who first discovered how to juggle, each friend joins the procession, and the text repeats phrases.
The illustrations are filled with detail, and the animals are wonderfully individual and eccentric. The backgrounds are as good as stories in themselves.
