Sweets

Oscar and Joris agree, by text message, to meet in the park to eat some sweets.

A sky-blue sweet gets Oscar thinking and what follows is a beautiful and poignant discussion about whether heaven exists, and if so what it's like. Will there be sweets in heaven? Oscar and Joris decide that if they do end up there, they'll arrange to meet. Joris can bring the sweets and Oscar can bring the coffee, and even if they have forgotten each other, they can soon learn to be friends again.

This is a fantastically different picture book, obviously aiming for an adult market, but which would not be lost on a young child either. It delightfully dispenses with the idea of what a picture book is supposed to be and delivers a funny, touching and uplifting story about the nature of friendship.
