The Catlady

Miss Ponsonby is reclusive and eccentric. She lives in a large house overrun with cats. The place is shabby and dirty, so when Mary Nutt arrives in need of shelter and offering a willing pair of hands, it suits them both that she makes Ponsonby Place her home.

The focus of the story is the old lady and her belief in reincarnation. She is certain that she has living with her, in feline form, not only her dead parents and friends, but Queen Victoria. Mary is sceptical, but in the long run…

A simple, compassionate narrative, with some stretching vocabulary, although in some ways it feels like a story waiting to happen.
