On The Road
by Susan Steggall
A family sets off in the car on a trip to the seaside. On the way they have to drive through a busy town centre, up a hill and down again, out onto a by-pass, through the countryside and past fields and animals until finally reaching the beach and their destination. The narrative in On the Road is all in the pictures, which are rich and interesting collages of the family's Mini, as it wends its way through a variety of environments and past numerous interesting vehicles from an ambulance to a Land Rover, a digger and a roadsweeper. The minimal text is almost superfluous to requirements, as the bold images will inspire comment and discussion from even the youngest of children.
