Women of Camelot

Queens and Enchantresses at the Court of King Arthur

by

Mary Hoffman
Illustrator: Christina Balit

Mary Hoffman's dramatic retellings of nine strories based on Sir Thomas Malory's Le Morte d'Athur are viewed from the perspective of seven very different women, from influential queens and powerful sorceresses to ordinary women, all of whom proved to be determined and resourceful.

Despite the restictions placed upon their lives, these women often lie at the heart of the Camelot story, using love, hate, intrigue and enchantment to determine its outcome.

One by one they act as narrator to tell their own story: Igrayne, the mother of King Arthur; Guinevere, Arthur's Queen; Morgan Le Fay, half-sister to Arthur and his arch enemy; and Nimu, who recounts the undoing of Merlin.

Mary Hoffman - author of over 70 children's books - is a powerful storyteller; she brings a fresh perspective to the legend of Camelot, and Christina Balit's illustrations are stunning and dramatic.

A useful section that lists characters and talks about sources is located in the back of the book.
