Girl 15 Charming But Insane
by Sue Limb
Jess is a teen with low confidence and self esteem. She spends her time being mesmerised by the fabulously handsome Ben Jones – who is so totally wrong for her. She also spends her time tragically alienating Fred, the witty oddball who always makes her laugh.
Jess has been invited to do a stand-up routine at the school show, the one thing she knows she’s good at. But the glamorous Flora and her vile band Poisonous Trash threaten to steal the show.
It’s classic stuff in that the plot has a distinctly familiar ring to it, but it is undeniably laugh-out-loud funny. It’s a riotous take on Jane Austen’s Emma – and is both snazzy and very contemporary.
