The Chimpanzees of Happytown
by Giles Andreae
In Drabsville, the streets are all the same. There are no trees or parks or flowers. The grey and brown monkey inhabitants, are working hard, trudging the blue-grey streets under neon-yellow lighting. It's always raining. Life is dull. There is a repressive mayor and, unsurprisingly, everyone looks miserable.
Sailing into port comes a maverick traveller, with a battered-suitcase and guitar in hand. He brings with him a seed - a seed that grows into a colourful, rococo, fruit and vegetable flowering tree. Hope is sown for the creation of a happy town.
With colour the inhabitants can express their individuality. And what follows suggests that love, happiness and community are best served through personal freedom and the embrace of difference. A joyous tale, fabulously illustrated from the award-winning duo behind Giraffes Can't Dance.
