Feed

by M T Anderson

In the distant future, humans take holidays on the moon, live underground in simulated weather pods and most importantly are all connected to ‘the Feed’. This microchip planted in their brains from birth allows them to instant message friends, watch television shows, look up any information they want online and shop constantly.

Titus and his friends live in this hectic, relentless world where fashions change so often you have to update your hairstyle several times a day just to keep up. Then Titus meets Violet. She is completely different because, although connected to the Feed, she has experienced life without it. She opens Titus’ eyes to the wider world. A world where people are starving, rioting and dying every day. He begins to realise that life outside of reality television and clothing sales is not as rosy as the adverts would want you to believe. But is Titus ready to handle the truth?

This story could not be better timed. In an age where social networking means we are always connected to each other and advances in technology ensure this connection never has to be lost, the idea of the Feed may not seem such a great stretch for the imagination. Fantastically written with a subtle black humour that runs throughout, Feed is guaranteed to keep you hooked to the last page. With strong language throughout, this book is best suited to older readers.
