The Amazing Adventures of Girl Wonder

by

Malorie Blackman
Illustrator: Lis Toft

This compilation of Girl Wonder stories, selected (by the author) from two previous books, is centred on the often misguided, but irrepressibly good-humoured, adventures of Girl Wonder Maxine and her compliant twin brothers Edward and Antony.

These warm tales of a single-parent Afro-Caribbean family, related with Malorie Blackman’s usual skill and based on everyday incidents of family life, are both fun and easy to read.

Mum, though kind and patient (as well as unfailingly good-humoured), also bucks the usual stereotype by displaying accomplished technical skills, such as mending the car, and young readers will readily identify with the sparky Maxine.
