The Lost Boys' Appreciation Society

by Alan Gibbons

When the drunk driver responsible for killing Gary and John’s mum escapes with a suspended sentence, the family’s pain is intensified and their belief in justice shattered.

Dad tries to ease his loneliness by dating, John buries himself in his school work, and Gary seeks solace in the danger of drugs, drink and joyriding.

It takes another near-tragedy to bring them back together and make them realise how much they all still love and need one another.

Alan Gibbons handles the trauma and emptiness that follows the death of a parent sensitively and realistically. In this immensely readable book, he shows compassion and empathy, while exploring the complex relationship between devastating loss and the need to move on.
