Book of the month: The Humans by Matt Haig

It's not favouritism, it's not just because he's our writer in residence, it is because Matt Haig has genuinely written the most affecting book of the month, a slyly comic science fiction novel featuring aliens that says more about what it means to be human than anything else out there. THAT'S why it's our book of the month. Don't believe us? Get it. You will love it.

Elsewhere we have strong debuts from the likes of Lotti Moggach with the zeitgeisty Kiss Me First, Ciaran Collins' lauded The Gamal and Beatrice Hitchman's mysterious Petit Mort. Lionel Shriver and Rose Tremain are back. There's a smattering of translated fiction and short story collections. Generally, we have something for everyone this month. Be it crime, literary fiction, something funny, dramatic, sad, hysterical, moving... you will find books to love here.
