The Ant Club

The Ant Club

This information is intended for parents/carers whose children are currently taking part in Ant Club activities through their school

The Ant Club is a programme of resources delivered into schools from Booktrust, the independent charity empowering people through reading and writing. The programme is offered to selected primary schools providing free resources for reception and Year 1 classes. All the free materials are designed to inspire, boost skills, build confidence and help children get carried away with words.

These specially developed materials are designed to complement the curriculum and to engage children, teachers and parents alike. Participating schools receive a new package of resources every term, containing a set of materials for each reception and Year 1 class. The resources are flexible so every child should be able to enjoy and learn through the Ant Club.

The Rhyme Challenge

Rhyme challenge for Reception classes

For Reception pupils, the summer term resources is The Rhyme Challenge. The Rhyme Challenge is a great way for your child to enjoy learning rhymes with classmates and teachers and then share and recite them at home with members of the family.

Rhymes can be shared anywhere. Just take a few special minutes a day to enjoy rhymes with your child through talking or singing, or even using musical instruments if you feel confident. Your child should bring home a rhyme sheet to keep, so you can all enjoy sharing and learning rhymes together.

Create Your Own Book

 Create Your Own Book

Year 1 pupils will receive The Create Your Own Book resource, which allows your child to develop a book of their very own, making decisions about what the book will be about, what they will need and want to include. This gives children the power to make creative decisions, and helps them to understand the process of making books, giving them more confidence and increasing their interaction with writing and the written word.

We hope that your child will enjoy this resource enough to tell you about the work s/he is doing, but to encourage this process further we would recommend having conversations about the different kinds of books that are available, and which types your child enjoys, and why.

There are lots of age appropriate books listed in the children's books section of this website.

The Ant Club is achieved through public private partnerships, delivered by Booktrust, and supported by the Department for Education and children's publishers.
