Pori Drwy Stori

Launched by Booktrust Cymru in 2012, Pori Drwy Stori is an exciting universal programme for foundation phase learners (four- to five-year-olds). All children in maintained Welsh primary schools are eligible for the programme automatically; schools do not need to sign up to the programme. We are hoping to reach some 35,000 children. All communication and information regarding the programme will be sent directly to schools from the Welsh Government.

There are 3 main elements to the programme:

Rhyme Challenge – a set of rhyme sheets and certificates.
Booktime/Amser Llyfr – a bookbag containing two story books – one in English and one in Welsh
My Book – learner booklets designed to inspire children to create stories.

The programme aims to raise standards in the three core areas of learning: Language, literacy and communication skills including numbers (mathematical development); Personal, social development and well-being; and cultural diversity.

The intended outcomes are an increase and/or improvements in:

the quality time that families spend together
attitudes by parents/carers to reading and books (for themselves and their child)
the number of rhymes known – parent/child
parental confidence around sharing books, stories and rhymes
parental confidence around being a partner in their child’s learning over time.

Mae Booktrust Cymru yn lawnsio rhaglen genedlaethol newydd a chyffrous i bob plentyn 4-5 oed yn y Cyfnod Sylfaen. Mae’r rhaglen yn rhad ac am ddim ac nid oes angen ymuno er mwyn eu ddefnyddio. Ein bwriad yw i gyraedd tua 35,000 o blant ar hyd a lled Cymru. Fe fydd y Llywodraeth yn cysylltu a phob ysgol gyda’r gwybodaeth am bob agwedd o’r rhaglen.

Bydd Pori Drwy Stori yn canolbwyntio ar dair prif elfen:

Sialens rhigwm – Pecyn o rhigymau hen a newydd i ddysgu
Amser Llyfr – Yn cynnwys dau lyfr – un Gymraeg, un Saesneg
Creu Llyfr – Pecyn i ysbrydoli plant i greu storiau eu hun.

Nod Pori Drwy Stori yw codi safonau yn y tri maes dysgu craidd: Iaith, Llythrennedd a Sgiliau Cyfathrebu, yn cynnwys rhifau (datblygiad mathemategol); Datblygiad Personol a Chymdeithasol; a Lles ac Amrywiaeth Ddiwylliannol.

Yn ogystal a hyn:

gwella ymgysylltiad rhieni/gofalwyr drwy bartneriaeth rhwng teuluoedd ac ysgolion.
gwella agwedd gofalwyr tuag at llyfrau a darllen
adnabod rhigymau (plentyn ac oedolyn)
codi hyder wrth rannu llyfrau, storiau a rhigymau
dangos diddordeb o fod yn ran o addysg y plentyn.
